I recently saw an item in my favorite section  ... (you know, the heart is full of it) ... 10 searchers and 15 offers for 1 cent (EUR 0.01).
Impossible that those 10 seekers are waiting for the price to drop, because that is obviously not possible. But it is thought provoking.
We don't see who is looking for something. And even then: you can't see anything about the activity on an account. Last logged in on 15/3/2012 or changed a list yesterday. An indication active / inactive ... last logged in on ... last modification (of a list or profile) on ...
How many messages I have already sent to users without reply ... users who may no longer be in the realm of the living, or who hear it 'thunder in Cologne' when a message from 'LastDodo' reaches them.
A lot of time is lost like this, over and over again.

No, that way can' supply and demand' as an argument should never be taken seriously on LD. If I read somewhere 'there is a reasonable demand for the item', then you already know what I think.

Price suggestions.
Part of the explanation could be that items are offered but not in the 'desired' condition of what is on the search lists of collectors/potential buyers.
- Take Suske en Wiske.
- Catalog value from high to low
- first 7 offered for sale that I come across: # 27060 #1594077 #27051 #27065 #27067 #27055 #27063
- 191 albums together but 'only' 16 in the desired condition; and then another 13 times at #27065
* And another thing I find. Search list is a 'relative' concept.
The island of Amoras is on request lists 79 times. But how many really want to pay 1500 euros for a good condition, let's stay 'cheap'? For some, that is a monthly wage.
And you could just as well speak of a 'want list' and a search list.
And everyone, I think anyway, works with a certain budget and prices for themselves.

Users, active or not are of value to any site. Just think about Musk and Twitter.

Furthermore, who cares that searchers don't buy. That is up to the searcher to decide for themselves. Or did I miss that if I'm looking for something and it's for sale I have to buy it?

What do you want to claim? The fact that offered albums are sometimes in a different state than the desired one in the search lists is not relevant at all.
The point is that sometimes the albums offered are in the desired, sought-after condition and that very often nothing happens. Of course there can be all kinds of explanations for this, but if it happens very often, then the most obvious explanation is that the search lists are polluted.
And the question now is how we can prevent this phenomenon.

buizer "But how many really want to, let's stay 'cheap', pay 1500 euros for a good condition? For some, that is a monthly wage. "
To clarify: who wants to pay 1500 euros for something, have earned 3000 euros gross. So it's a monthly wage for many.

I don't think it has much to do with the state being insufficient.
The suspicion that there are a lot of inactive users makes a lot of sense to me .

fazerco “Furthermore, who cares that searchers don't buy.”
If it's data that's wrong, you're going to be misinformed anyway. Either way, it influences your view of the feasibility of an offer.
And if I'm not mistaken, whoever is on the searcher list will automatically receive an email when something is offered.
That would be a redundant server load, and not just on LD's servers, but on the entire chain between LD and the so-called seeker.

In another section (coins) I also found this rather strange:

A sale in 2015.  Back then the LD catalog value was still 33,000 for condition UNC.  Sold at 0.007 % of catalog value??
In 2019 the LD catalog value for UNC was adjusted to 11,000. Even then that sale is still at 0.02% of the catalog value.
Can't it be a condition UNC in very bad condition?
There is an offer for G for 1 euro and there are 10 seekers ...
This falls under the heading of nonsense (at least according to my definition of nonsense).
The problem is not rubric-bound. The same happens in other sections (there is a similar thread going on in coasters).
Who is actually being fooled here?
Whether it's about Comics, Stamps, Beermats or Coins. There should at least be a check with the 'Revenue LastDodo shops'. If there are sales in it, then this should at least get a check. Catalog values that are 13,200 times greater than concrete sales figures ...
Hilarious for an outsider. For a collector-searcher on LD an indication that the matter is not taken seriously on this site.

A minimum check that the catalog value, according to condition, may not be greater than 100 x the highest selling price for that condition from the table. That would already mean something. Then an adjustment such as in the above example (4,400 x the effective selling price) would not have been possible either.
Or was the transaction set up by the same person, with different accounts? Fraud and scams that have gripped the item for 7 years? Is there a check on this?
Or is a realistic sales value in the coins section at 0.007% of the catalog value usual?

And if I'm not mistaken, whoever is on the searcher list will automatically receive an email when something is offered.

Unfortunately, not.
With me, and with many others, this is deducted.

In addition: whoever creates an account 'temporarily', with 'temporary' an email address ... and three months later create a new 'temporary' account (different nickname) with a different 'temporary' email address ...
With all those free email address sites you can easily create a new email address and then 'forget'. The account on LD will then continue to exist, sending emails to an address ... where no one reads it.

Correct. So it's more of a useless load on the system than anything else.

Anyway, we seem to be tracking a serious problem.

Okay, it may well have nothing to do with it.
But I can't help but feel that it's just the sellers who have a ' make a problem of it. They look in every possible way for ways to 'wear out' their comics. And as fazerco says after all, it is the user who decides. Point.
And 'fucking' is of all times; on LD but also elsewhere...
The bear dances for money, you know...
At LD there is still 'something' about 'sales figures'; to my knowledge nothing at all on other sites...
And a 'clearance' is also quite ok.
But practical...
LD is available from July 2020.
And then you had to re-register to continue.
So this is the result of 2 years...
M.i. so a 'problem' that always returns...
And there are also items on my wish list that no longer interest me. But I clean up regularly, but not every week or month.

I don't think it's mainly a problem for the sellers. I would even expect that it is mainly a problem for the buyers. The higher the demand seems to be and the higher the prices seem to be, the more interesting for the sellers. It is confusing for the buyers. So why would the sellers have a problem with it?
My problem is that it's just plain wrong, and the variances can be huge. There are always trade-offs in cases like this, but pieces that would be worth 33000 euros that sell for 2.50 euros... It's like investing in crypto coins.
And the overload of servers with useless information and ditto email messaging is a burden on the workload of the servers as well as on the power consumption of the system. That all sucks electricity, you know, those applications. And hard drives.
If half the data can be deleted (and it seems that way), then LD halves its costs of HDs and electricity. And that's a good thing for the user, because then the business model becomes more viable.

A sale in 2015.  Then the LD catalog value was still 33,000 for condition UNC.  Sold at 0.007% of catalog value??

This intrigued me and I had to search a bit before I found the item in question.
After further research it became clear why this expensive penny was sold so cheaply:

This item should never have been allowed sold this way. The seller was honest enough to say that it is a counterfeit. It is clear that these kinds of transactions completely obscure the history.

I would like to refer to this topic again: Reporting-odd/incorrect-revenue on items in the catalog.

I think LD has copied the data from the Catawiki catalogue. And the Catawiki catalog has been around since 2009.

With comics, this might be impossible. I think a 'false' or 'counterfeit' copy will always be recognizable somewhere clearly (visually) deviant. And thus will lead to the creation of a new item.

With coins (and stamps) this is more difficult. The visual aspect is more difficult. There you sometimes need special equipment (and knowledge to use it) to be able to determine whether it is a 'real' or 'counterfeit' (counterfeit) copy. The majority of collectors will probably not be able to determine independently whether such a thing is real or fake.

Just an idea: can a (lowest) 'counterfeit' condition be added?
Such a seller also lost his comfort. A buyer can then always decide not to go for the real thing, but for a 'hole filler'.
Then the value of their own data (sales/purchase)  is not compromised.

With An additional advantage is that as a collector you can include the item in the appropriate condition ('counterfeit', which is actually counterfeit) in the right place in the collection on LD. Then you also know where you used 'hole fillers'.

As an example (from my favorite section): 1835305.
I once bought these 'counterfeit' (it was neatly indicated) for EUR 25.  The 'real thing' is expensive, and is offered very little. Hence expensive: for that item up to 60% of the catalog value can be reality. You want it or you don't want it...
It's not in my collection, and I have no intention of adding the 'false' seal. False items (counterfeit) in the stamp section is 'not done'.
45 collectors on LD do have them in collection, and I think mostly as 'hole filler' (a counterfeit copy). Which is of course not correct.
An additional condition 'counterfeit' could offer collectors a solution.
In addition: at Stamps (for the 'old stuff') there are specialized collectors of forgeries. Even real books and catalogs have been made for this. A bit like there are collectors of 'plate errors'. The latter group is lucky, because they are included in the section. The first group ... locked out.

I think LD took the data from Catawiki's catalogue.

Indeed. The third largest collector of Stamps on LD, for example (I personally know very well, he lives in the same street), he didn't do much with CW anymore. He simply created a new account on LD a year after the transition.
And so there will probably be many who after the transition did not immediately understand that there was a 'transition', and later 'discovered' LastDodo.

Conclusion: those who had an account at the time of the transition from CW to LD, and who had been dead and buried for 7 years, do live on in LD. Search list included.

Beautiful. That discussion has also been circulating on the internet for some time: what about the accounts of all those dead? That is of course a problem that those whiz kids from California never think about.

As for wrong prices (luckily Collectioneur seems to have solved the riddle): there are people who are misled by that wrong information.
And also: if that info is so wrong, why is it there? Isn't she just worthless? What's the point of all that info if you can't do anything with it but ignore it?

Last Dodo is open source. Anyone can enter or change information. This means that the information can never be completely correct. Even though the administrators do their best to fix the errors. The users should always use their own brains as well.
The usefulness of all that information is that sometimes good information is included.

Open source should not be an argument to defend errors and flaws. In the case of Wikipedia (also open source) it is even used to defend quality. In general, IT finds far too many excuses to justify its flaws, such as bugs in new programs. So that first.

Secondly, prices in catalogs always contain errors. Matla, for example, was also generally regarded as a collection of overestimations.
But that does not mean that extremes should be tolerated.

Moreover, you can only use your own brain if you are well informed. So your last comment just demands that the info is good. That information may not become a place holder or place filler. She should be informative. Otherwise it is not information and does not have to be there.

Prices are relative, so in the case of sugar packets they are worth at most 0.10 or less for the collector, from 1950. For the comic book lovers, a sugar bag with Lucky luke on it is worth 1 or 2 euros, but for the sugar bag collector still 0.10.

I don't think that reasoning holds. The next time I buy a comic book album, I'll say I'm a scrap paper buyer. You are right emotionally, but not in terms of financial value.
If an LL enthusiast is willing to pay ten times as much for such a sugar bag than a sugar bag collector, then the sugar bag collector's collection will simply remain incomplete. You'd have to be crazy to sell it to him.

I hope you understand that a manual check as soon as someone puts something up for sale doesn't work Raoul62Or you need a lot of time :-)

In your example that checked Collectioneur, the catalog value was not the issue but a wrong (false) item was presented.

What I think we can do better is run a query to find and track the items with the largest differences between catalog value and sales revenue. Apart from that, you can always report items where this plays a role Raoul62

Now you're playing the man instead of the ball.
And even if I don't correct anything, it doesn't change the statement that misinformation is just useless and misleading.
Some here suggested we deleting inactive accounts, and that might already solve a lot of problems.
But, oh well, it's open source, and then we get the typical IT reflex: pass all responsibility on to the user instead of the producer . Easy.
By the way, I used to be here under a different account, and then I did make changes.
My current account has only been active since June 1, 2022. Then I would have sorted everything out very quickly to dare to make price suggestions.

PeterMotte ,
LastDodo is a catalog created by all users together. If you keep shouting out loud that the information is incorrect and then start demanding things from other users, I think it would be good to take a look at your own contributions. It is always very easy to criticize everyone from the sidelines.
