A rare masterpiece from the story series “Puk en Poppedijn” by Piet Wijn. Puk and Poppedijn are two 18th-century children who have exciting adventures with friendly witches, elves, evil gnomes and other fairytale characters. The attractively illustrated stories appeared weekly, first in the family magazine “De Spiegel” and then in “Princess”. Part of the almost iconic look of "Puk en Poppedijn" is due to Wim Lensen, who provided the beautiful color scheme. Most of the original illustrations were lost in January 1971 in a castle fire in Nederhorst den Berg, where the Toonder Studios were housed at the time. Lensen had just pulled the original pages out of the vault the day before to sort things out when disaster struck. He never fully recovered from this blow. This original page from the year 1973 originated from the exciting story “De Groeikoeken”.
