The competition puck is made of vulcanized rubber. Ice hockey club Capitals Leeuwarden was founded in 2010 by (former) players of the former ice hockey club Trias, also from the Frisian capital. Ice hockey club Trias Leeuwarden was founded in 1978 and used to play on a kind of Ton Menken ice rink in Leeuwarden. That was an ice hockey rink surrounded by a 220 meter skating rink. Trias played 15 years in the 2nd division, 1 year in the 3rd division, and 1 year in the 1st division under the sponsor name DLJ. Later the club descended to recreation level. Various recreation teams including many former Trias players have started working together. In 2010 a new association emerged from this collaboration: Capitals Leeuwarden. With the completion in 2015 of a new ice complex, the Elfstedenhal, ice hockey also returned to the 1st division level. In the 2019-20 season OrangeGas Capitals finished in 5th place in the 1st division Pool B. (updated to season 2020-21). More printed pucks have been released.
