Original editorial cartoon in pen/brush and ink and craftint on board for the New Orleans Times Picayune, 1970, shows British prime minister Harold Wilson with his possessions outside No. 10 Downing Street waiting to see if he can return as prime minister after the general election held on 18 June 1970. He is shown consulting the ‘pollsters’, and most opinion polls prior to this election had indeed indicated a comfortable Labour victory and had put Labour up to 12.4% ahead of the Conservatives. On election day, however, a late swing gave the Conservatives a 3.4% lead and ended almost six years of Labour government, and Wilson would not be moving back into Downing Street, at least not for the time being. Board size 50.5 x 38 cm (20 x 15 inch), image size 42 x 35 cm, signed lower right, caption in pencil in upper border, dated June 22, 1970 in lower border. In very good condition.
