Original editorial cartoon in pen/brush and ink on card for the Columbus Evening Dispatch (Ohio), 1954, shows ‘Doc Voter’ about to enter the ‘election delivery room’ while saying ‘Now take it easy boys - I’ll let you know as soon as anything happens!’ to a Republican elephant and a Democrat donkey pacing around in great suspense. This refers to the mid-term US congressional elections to be held in November 1954. The Republicans had a majority of only one in the Senate and a very narrow majority in the House of Representatives. As it turned out, the Democrats turned the tables and gained a majority in both houses which they would retain for decades (until 1980 in the Senate and until 1994 in the House of Representatives). Mounted for an overall size of 51 x 40 cm (20 x 16 inch), image size 36 x 29 cm, signed lower left. Artist’s name typed in upper border and caption in lower border, and caption and date (Mon. Oct. 18, 1954) in pencil on verso. In very good condition.
