Original editorial cartoon in ink and crayon on card for Chicago Today, 1970, shows a hippie sitting at a table trying to get people to sign a ‘stop the war!’ petition against the Vietnam War. John Q. Public rushes up carrying a pen and shouting ‘send copies to Hanoi, Peking and Moscow’. The depiction of the hippie is not flattering and the cartoonist is clearly not sympathetic to this alternative generation and also thinks that it is a waste of time to focus protest at the US government - the other players involved in Vietnam, the North Vietnamese, the Chinese and the Russians, must also be convinced that the war should be brought to an end. Card size 41 x 33 cm (16 x 13 inch), image size 36 x 30 cm, signed and dated lower right, caption in ink in upper border. In very good condition.
