Original editorial cartoon in ink on paper for the Beaver Falls News Tribune (Pa.), around 1970, shows jittery boxer ‘Kid Nixon’ confronting and trying to ‘restrain’ a much larger opponent, the ‘nation’s no.1 problem - inflation’ with ‘high costs’ and ‘high prices’. High inflation led Nixon (‘I gotta knock him out’) to introduce the Economic Stabilization Act of 1970 (a law that authorized the President to stabilize prices, rents, wages, salaries, interest rates and so on in an attempt to balance the American economy, and particularly reduce inflation). This Act had four phases extending into 1973, none of them ultimately successful. Paper size 33 x 28 cm (13 x 11 inch), image size 28 x 24.5 cm, signed lower right, caption in ink lower centre. Some light staining along right border, otherwise in good condition.
