"Weighing only 871kgs and powered by a Formula 5000 engine developing 500bhp, Frank Gardner's Chevrolet Corvair Sports Sedan was always going to be very competitive. The car stood only 1194mm tall and was constructed using mainly Formula 5000 components.
Frank won the 1977 Sports Sedan Championship in the Chevrolet Corvair, registering five wins in the seven round series. He set records on five of those circuits. Driven by Frank in John Player colours, the car made its racing debut in August 1976. The Corvair had 41 wins from 49 starts. Frank retired from racing at the end of the 1977 season and the car continued to race in the capable hands of Allan Grice."
