Original editorial cartoon on card in pen, brush and ink published in the Daily Orange 1974, shows an empty conference table on the world which is disintegrating while talks aimed at ending underground nuclear tests are temporarily stalled. The Treaty on the Limitation of Underground Nuclear Weapon Tests, also known as the Threshold Test Ban Treaty (or TTBT), was eventually signed in July 1974 by the USA and the USSR. It established a nuclear "threshold," by prohibiting nuclear tests of devices having a yield exceeding 150 kilotons (equivalent to 150,000 tons of TNT), so not an outright ban on underground nuclear tests, just a limitation on the explosive power of such tests. Card size 29 x 20 cm (11.5 x 7.75 inch), image size 29 x 18) cm, signed lower right, though signature is hardly visible because of the black background. Caption in lower border, in excellent condition.
