Original editorial cartoon on board in pen and ink, published in the London Evening News, 1950, shows a member of a crowd who is watching the procession of the state opening of Parliament by King George VI and whose view is blocked by a tall Grenadier Guardsman wearing his bearskin headgear. Financing of the Grenadier Guards had just been brought under public funds expenditure to ease the burden on the defence budget following the end of WW2. So a publicly funded soldier is blocking the view of a member of the public. Board size 54 x 38 cm (21 x 15 inch), image size 42.5 x 29 cm, signed lower centre, caption in ink in lower border and dated 31-10-50, numbered 6089. Some light staining, otherwise in good condition.
