Original editorial cartoon on board in pen and ink, published in the London Evening News, 1943, as one of the World War Two ‘Smiling Through’ series, shows a group of recruits being given ‘army education’, in this case ‘the future - what MUST be done!’. The instructor is holding a bottle of poison in one hand and a noose in the other, and is saying: ‘…. and when I invited suggestions for Post-War-Planning I didn’t want anything personal!’. Board size 40 x 27.5 cm (16 x 11 inch), image size 36 x 27 cm, signed lower right, caption in ink in lower border and dated on right border 28-1-43, numbered 2616. Some board loss lower left corner and staining/darkening along bottom border, otherwise in good condition.
