Portrait bust within oval of Joseph I of Portugal (1714-1777), nicknamed the Reformer, King of Portugal and the Algarve. Joseph was very devoted to the church and especially to the opera. He became King of Portugal when his father died in 1750, when he was 35 years old, and almost immediately put power in the hands of Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, better known today as the Marquis of Pombal. Etching by Johannes Esaias Nilson (1721-1788). Made in Augsburg, ca. 1760. Signed in print.

Portretbuste binnen ovaal van Jozef I van Portugal (1714-1777), bijgenaamd de Hervormer, koning van Portugal en de Algarve. Jozef was erg toegewijd aan de kerk en vooral ook aan de opera.
