Original editorial cartoon, ink and crayon on board, 1960, shows Richard Nixon talking to three elephants while pointing to an image of ‘the 1948 Champ Harry Truman’ and saying ‘I want you to go and fight like HE did’. In the 1948 presidential election all predictions pointed to Truman losing, but Truman and his staff worked tirelessly and won the election. In 1960 Nixon was running against the Democratic candidate John F. Kennedy, and the irony here is that Nixon is encouraging his campaign staff to go out and fight like Democrats to get Nixon, a Republican, elected. The 1960 election was the closest since 1916, with Kennedy emerging as victor. Caption in blue crayon in top margin, signed bottom right, printing instructions in lower border. Card size 47 x 46 cm (18.5 x 18 inch), image size 40 x 38 cm. In very good condition.
