Half-length portrait of Hubert Korneliszoon Poot (1689-1733) at the age of 30 in an oval, with edge lettering in Dutch. Poot was a Dutch poet, whose work ties in with both the classically oriented poetry of Vondel, for example, and the sensitive mood poetry of the 18th century. Poot was also at the basis of a turnaround in Dutch literature: he resolved to try to make a living from his pen and, which was very unusual in the 17th century, not to pursue any other profession. Copper engraving by Jacob Houbraken (1698-1780), after the painting by Thomas van der Wilt (1659-1733). Issued around 1720. Signed in print. Source: Rijksmuseum, 2015.
