Original editorial cartoon on card in pen/brush and ink, published in the Chicago Tribune, 1942, shows the hand of ‘Allied retribution’ reaching out toward the ‘ringleaders of Nazi barbarity’ represented by Adolf Hitler fleeing from the scene of the murder of a bound civilian. In 1942 the USA had just entered the war and Germany was still in a strong position, especially in Europe. The murder of civilians was commonplace in occupied Europe and the ‘final solution’ had just been initiated in January 1942. The tide would turn however, and Hitler and his cronies would pay the price for their criminal actions. Card size 41 x 31 cm (16 x 12 inch), image size 35 x 31 cm, signed and dated lower right, caption in upper border. Some staining in top left corner and along right border, otherwise in good condition.
