Felixstowe F2a
The Felixstowe flying boats originated as adaptations of the American
built Curtis H-12 flying boats which had been supplied to the RNAS.
More efficient and sea-worthy hulls were built at Felixstowe and the first
F2a powered by 345hp Rolls-Royce engines, was delivered in November
1917. It proved to be a first-class aircraft capable of long patrols. It earned two pilots and had four to seven Lewis gun positions. Two 2301b bombs could be carried beneath the lower wings. The F2a flying boats scored numerous successes over enemy submarines and airships and fought many successful combats with German seaplanes over the North Sea.
