Original editorial cartoon on card in pencil, published in the New York Journal, 1962, is a tribute to Dag Hammarskjöld (UN Secretary General) and shows an image of Hammarskjöld looking over the United Nations with the plaza named for him. He died in a plane crash in September 1961 while on his way to try and resolve a crisis in the Republic of the Congo. The park on East 47th Street between Second and First Avenues, just north of the United Nations, in New York was named Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza in his honour in 1961. Card size 32.5 x 25 cm (13 x 10 inch), image size 22 x 19 cm, caption in pencil on upper border, printing instructions on lower border, signed lower left with an inscription below the bottom left border written to another cartoonist, Max Milians, dated Jan. 62, and signed again. Some scattered staining mostly along the right border and small piece of card missing at lower right corner, otherwise good condition.
