Portrait bust to the right inner oval with rectangular frame of Franciscus Junius (1589-1677). Iunius was a Dutchman who spent much of his life in England. He grew up in Leiden, where his father was a professor of Hebrew. He is the author of the influential painting treatise "De Schilder-konst der Oude" (Middelburg, 1641), which also appeared in Latin and English. In 1665 Junius produced the very first full text edition of the Gothic Bible of Wulfila. Copper engraving, maker unknown. Made around 1700. Presumably a book illustration.
