Details
Original political cartoon done on thin card in charcoal and pencil, dated 1964, published in the St. Louis Globe Democrat, shows president Lyndon B Johnson (LBJ) on the phone with a large globe representing 'World Problems' rolling onto and over him. Suggesting that Johnson’s plans for a ‘Great Society’ would be frustrated by US involvement around the world, particularly Vietnam, which did ultimately prove to be the case. Original sketch later augmented by the artist with a matt on which the caption is written in ink at the top and the date along the bottom. Matt size 38 x 30 cm (13 x 11 inch), image size 27 x 22 cm. Signed bottom left. Several brown spots on the globe, otherwise in very good condition.
