Original political cartoon done on thick paper in pen/brush and ink/craftint, printed in the UK ‘Guardian’ 6 November 1980. With pencilled caption ‘Tough, but that’s show-bizz bud - anyway, once I’ve put in a bit of gun-play and chucked out all that brotherly love crap, we might have us a movie!’ A humiliated USA (the Iran embassy hostages) turned against President Carter in the 1980 election and voted in former film actor, Ronald Reagan. There have been persistent rumours that the Republicans encouraged Iran to delay releasing the hostages until after the election, though no proof of this has as yet been found. Reproduced in “Double Decade”, a collection of Gibbard’s cartoons, on page 212. Framed without matt for an overall size of 53 x 42 cm. Image size 41.5 x 30 cm, signed bottom right. In very good condition.
