Original political cartoon done on card in pen, brush and ink for the British Ministry of Information, around 1943, shows John Bull in the form of prime minister Churchill taking the other bull (Hitler) by the horns. From 1942 onward, the bombing campaign against Germany became less restrictive and increasingly targeted industrial sites and eventually civilian areas, causing great damage to German infrastructure. The second half of the caption reads: ‘Soon we shall get to closer grips’, referring to the invasion of Europe and the military confrontation on the ground which would begin in June 1944. Framed and matted for an overall size of 68 x 50.5 cm, image size 50 x 31 cm. Typed caption inset into matt bottom centre. Signed bottom right. In very good condition.
