Original political cartoon done on card in pen, brush and ink for the British Ministry of Information, 1941, shows Soviet leader Stalin giving Hitler a ‘shave’. In the Spring of 1941 Russia and Germany were still allies, or at least still officially abiding by the non-aggression pact signed in August 1939. Neither leader had any illusions however about the other and viewed the other with deep suspicion. Only weeks after this cartoon was drawn the German armies would invade Russia. Framed and matted for an overall size of 70 x 57.5 cm, image size 52 x 38.5 cm. Caption pasted on bottom right. Not signed, but most certainly by Flatter. In good condition.
