Original political cartoon drawing done on card in pen, brush and ink heightened with colour, for the British Ministry of Information around 1942, shows the heads of Jacques Doriot and Pierre Laval on spinning tops being whipped by a Nazi hand. Both were collaborators although Doriot was much more overtly fascist than Laval, head of the Vichy government from 1942, and frequently criticised him. Despite their differences they had no choice but to work together under pressure from the German occupiers. An explanatory note at bottom left has been damaged and is illegible except for the name of Flatter. Overall card size of 38 x 28 cm, image size 32.5 x 22 cm. Typed caption pasted on bottom right. Not signed, but most certainly by Flatter. In very good condition.
