Bust portrait of Henry IV of Brabant (1251 - after 1272), with crown. The portrait is set in a rectangular frame with a motto in Latin. In the margin the coat of arms of the sitter and a six-line caption in French. Etching and engraving by Pieter II de Jode (1596-1674). Signed in print. Published in Antwerp by Joannes Meyssens, ca. 1661 - 1663. The print comes from a book in which 54 prints with portraits. Henry IV succeeded his father as the eldest son of Duke Henry III of Brabant, but because of his minority his mother, Aleidis of Burgundy, took over the regency. His mother persuaded him to abdicate in May 1267 in favor of his brother Jan. After the transfer of power, Hendrik retired to an abbey in Dijon, where he was forgotten and died, no one knows when.
