Portrait of the Frisian admiral Aucke Stellingwerff (1635-1665) in front of a cannon with the command staff in his hand. In 1665 Stellingwerf was appointed first lieutenant admiral of Friesland. He did not hold this position for a long time. In the Battle of Lowestoft that same year he was killed as commander of the fourth squadron on the Zevenwolden, less than thirty years old. He was succeeded by Tjerk Hiddes de Vries who would die a year later in the same Second Anglo-Dutch War.
