Original political cartoon drawing in ink, crayon on board, published in The Toronto Sun in 1984, shows Konstantin Chernenko who was elected leader of the Soviet Union in 1984. Chernenko did little to prevent the escalation of the Cold War with the United States. His ‘4-point peace plan’ is shown here as a four-shell game with the dove of peace and an olive branch under one of the shells. Pick any one or all of the shells but the outcome will always be the same, since such a game is a confidence trick, a fraud. Chernenko died in 1985 and was replaced by Mikhail Gorbachev. Signed in pen lower left. Board size 51 x 38 cm (20 x 15 inch), image size 35.5 x 26 cm. Board has a fold all the way across about 10 cm from the top, otherwise in good condition.
