Original editorial cartoon, ink and crayon on board, 1945, shows a large machine, the World's War Machine, with two men discussing how to convert wartime production to production in a ‘peace-time economy’ following World War Two. One of the figures suggests that ‘the trick is to hook up this little gadget (a cog) an’ throw the whole works into reverse’. The economies of all the states involved in WW2 had been wholly geared to wartime production, some since 1939, and ‘reversing’ to peacetime production would be no easy task. Titled in the top margin in blue crayon and signed bottom right. Someone has written $4.00 in red ink at bottom right. Paper size 57 x 47.5 cm (22.5 x 18.5 inch), image size 46 x 35 cm. Darkening stain and closed tears on right border, otherwise very good condition.
