Original pen and ink/pencil/crayon editorial cartoon drawing on art card, 1955 published in the Christian Science Monitor. Shows the perfect site for a conference on the ‘H-Bomb threat’. This probably refers to the Geneva Summit of 1955. This was a Cold War-era summit meeting in Geneva, Switzerland to be held on July 18, 1955. It was a meeting of "The Big Four": President Eisenhower of the United States, Prime Minister Eden of Britain, Premier Bulganin of the Soviet Union, and Prime Minister Faure of France (hence the four ladders). The purpose was to begin discussions on world peace and security. Although those discussions would lead down many different roads (arms negotiations, trade barriers, diplomacy, nuclear warfare, etc.), the talks would be influenced by the common goal for increased global security. Stamped on verso: ‘Used May 24, 1955'. Signed lower level corner, card size 36 x 29 cm, image size: 29 x 24.5 cm. Very good condition.
