Original pen and ink/pencil/crayon editorial cartoon drawing on art card, 1959 published in the Christian Science Monitor. Shows Uncle Sam contemplating the need for a balanced federal budget. Shows Uncle Sam walking a tightrope holding two bags with demands of citizens on Government, and vice versa, with the ‘stable dollar’ as key factor. A theme which recurs for the rest of the century, and into this one. Dated on verso: February 17, 1959. Signed lower left corner, card size 36 x 29 cm, image size: 29 x 24.5 cm. Very good condition.
