Half-length portrait of Paulus Gevers (1741-1797) standing in front of two columns. Next to him an open copy of: "Charters and Privilege of the city of Rotterdam". Gevers was director of the West India Company (1770) in 1787 he was relieved of his position as chief officer of Rotterdam because of patriotic thinking and acting. In 1795 he became a member of the Provisional Representatives of the People of Holland and the Committee for the Affairs of the Navy. Etching and engraving by Leendert Brasser (1727-1793), after G.
