Location: Japan - Philippines Size: to 100 mm (Bigger specimens are rare) This family is a small family of seashells. Scientists thought that all members of this family were extinct untill the discovery of a living specimen. There are about 26 living species that can be found around the planet. Mikadotrochus hirasei is the most common member of this family. This specimen was once a big rarety, untill the Chinese and Philippine fishermen found better ways to fish. Now they get caught in big numbers and are very comon on the market.
