Robert Craig "Evel" Knievel, Jr. (Butte (Montana), October 17, 1938 - Clearwater (Florida), November 30, 2007) was an American stuntman. He was best known for his long-distance motorcycle jumps: his jump over Caesar's Fountain in Las Vegas on December 31, 1967, 50 meters away, made him famous, although his fall caused a one-month coma. He did most of his stunts during the sixties and they caused many injuries. He used his popularity to market merchandising such as micro action figures of his. His achievements, as well as his failures, earned many entries in the Guinness Book of Records. One of the records is the breaking of 37 bones. Evel Knievel survived, in addition to all the trauma he suffered from his dangerous stunts, also diabetes, Hepatitis C, a liver transplant and two brain haemorrhages. He died at the age of 69 from a terminal lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, against which he had to give up after three years.
