Jacob Ernst Marcus, born on St. Eustacius, March 19, 1774. Died in Amsterdam October 2, 1826. In 1783, he left for Amsterdam with his father. When his father dies a year later, he gets a very artistic man, Bathazar Ortt, as guardian, who discovers the artistic talent of Marcus and puts him in the apprenticeship of S. Coblé.
