Original pen drawing by Jan Kruis. A gift to Mr. Bessems, was related to Scholengemeenschap Dr. Nassau College in Assen. 1970. In the 1960s, Jan Kruis was an illustrator and mainly drew advertising work, including for Shell. Kruis drew comics for Shell's youth magazine, including the cowboy comic Tommy, Student Tijloos and about a medieval singer, Baldino. In 1969 and 1970 he signed and wrote two albums by Sjors and Sjimmie. However, Kruis is best known for his comic Jan, Jans and the children with autobiographical elements, which first appeared on 12 December 1970 in the magazine Libelle, after which Jan Kruis drew the strip weekly for almost thirty years.
