Maurice Auguste Chevalier (Paris, September 12, 1888 - Paris, January 1, 1972) was a French singer. He performed in cafes and revues at the Folies-Bergère and later in London. It was launched by his lover Mistinguett. Chevalier became known for his straw hat and tuxedo, among other things. Famous songs by him are La Madelon de la Victoire (1918), Valentine and Quand un Vicomte. Chevalier has written his memoirs in Mes Routes et mes chansons. They consist of four parts, published in 1950. In September 1968 he stopped performing and singing permanently. Yet in 1970 he recorded the title song of the Disney film "The Aristocats", in his own words "out of respect for the work of Walt Disney". Chevalier also took part in the First World War.
