For the first time in 1822 in the penal colony at the Ommerschans (Overijssel), later also elsewhere. The first coins were made in the colonies themselves, from 1837 onwards, coins for all colonies were struck at the same time at the G. van Maanen firm. After 1859 these coins were withdrawn from circulation. This coin is from the 3rd asylum (3G), Kolonie Veenhuizen (KV).
