This impressive looking Zeiss Ikon folding camera for glass plate negatives of 9x12 cm. bears the model name and type number 'Maximar' 207/7 - which can be read under the handle on the top of the camera - and was built by Zeiss Ikon AG, Dresden from 1927 to 1937. The Zeiss Ikon 'Maximar 207/7' is equipped with a special running bottom construction that makes it possible to move the lens with respect to the optical axis - both horizontally and vertically - in order to make perspective corrections. A frosted glass back was supplied as standard to check the corrections in advance. Before taking a photo, it had to be removed to make room for the glass plate back wall. The Zeiss Ikon Maximar 207/7 was built in a small number of variants with various brands of lenses and shutters. This Maximar in my collection has a Tessar 6.3 / 13.5 cm lens in a Compur 250 shutter. The model name 'Maximar' with type designation 207/7 was already used by Kamerafabrik ICA, A.G., Dresden who already introduced a similar camera under that name in 1914, but achieved no real success with it. When in 1926 the company ICA merged with Zeiss Ikon and the latter continued the production of the Maximar and made some improvements and refinements to it and also constructed back panels - optionally available - for 120 roll film and flat film, it suddenly made the Maximar 207/7. a successful camera.
