Carmen Red Limited Edition 6.700 pcs. The E-Type Jaguar Series 1 was launched at the Geneva Motor Show, March 15th 1961. It was unveiled by Sir William Lyons, Jaguar’s founder and then chairman of the Coventry based car manufacturer. The reaction was unprecedented and to such a scale that Sir Lyons requested another vehicle to be sent over to enable journalists to experience its dramatic 150 mph performance. Jaguar’s Chief Engineer, Norman Denis, drove overnight from Warwickshire to meet his request. The balanced and flowing lines of the E-type were justifiably rated ‘sensational’ when the car was announced in 1961. Total E-type production was 75.584, of which 15.292 were V-12’s. The model marked the end of a line which brought enormous success and prestige to Jaguar, which bore the Lyons’ stamp and reflected his policy of giving extraordinary value for money. They were - and still are - striking motor cars.
