Details
Of all the major brewing companies, Whitbread alone has managed to retain its individual identity over a history spanning more than 250 years. Samuel Whitbread was born in 1720 near Bedford. He established his first brewhouse in 1742 and in 1750 he purchased the small King’s Head brewery in Chiswell Street, Londen. Whitbreads’ headquarters have remained in Chiswell St to this day. A major feature of the modern brewery has been its transport fleet which has covered an enormous variety of vehicles. Whitbreads’ vehicle livery was changed in the 1920’s from green to chocolate brown, a colour which has remained ever since. It is carried on both the models in this set which represent a 1950’s A40 Service Van from the transport department and a 1960’s Anglia Tankard Service Van. The style of beer dispensing using pressurised metal containers, carbon dioxide cylinders, beer coolers and all the ancillary piping, was completely foreign to most public house tenants of the period, and service back-up was necessary, and was provided by a fleet of light vans such as the Anglia. Contains: VA 3003 (Austin A40 Van); VA 4004 (Ford Anglia Van). Limited Edition 5.000 pcs. (with certificate)
