An SRi 130 Cavalier was the 1980’s performance mid-size car for everyman, Ford’s Sierra Cosworth may have been faster, but was in another league in terms of cost. However the SRi could live its life in the fast lane and cost little more to buy or run than a normal Cavalier; Vauxhall couldn’t keep up with the demand at a launch price of just £12.888. By today’s standards, 130bhp may not be a lot, but the car was based on GM’s clever ‘J body’, so the SRi 130 tipped the scales at only 1150kg, over 300kgs less than the current Vectra SRi.
