I Can't Explain, released January 1965 in England. In the excellent Dutch good magazine Warm Sounds, Freddy Haayen tells the story of his attempts, as the youngest servant at Polydor, to get The Who for Polydor Nederland in early 1965. He succeeded and his star has risen considerably since then, he was himself vice president Polydor international in and Director of WEA America for a number of years. Often wrongly slated but clearly a man of vision and still involved in the Who and Led Zeppelin catalog. Due to his actions (English import was apparently not yet possible), the first singles were imported / released here on German Brunswick and with that the first Who singles on the market. April 16, I can't Explain was on the Polydor release lists and the second “Anyway, Anywhere, Anyhow” even became a hit in July 1965 at number 28. With that, the first two Who singles are also regularly released here. Only in November / December 1965 did the real breakthrough come with “My generation”. Here finally a nice photo cover scan showing that the version on 7 inch records is misinterpreted. The release number is not 0 5926 (English) but Brunswick 12 294. Who has scans of the vinyl of this German single? In mint condition, it is worth between 6 and 800 euros Who knows better can say it. Joe
