Details
The Vectrex was the First video game console with a built-in (monochrome) screen. By means of replacable coloured overlays, the illusion of a colour screen was created. The unit also had an incorporated joypad. Contrary to the conventional ‘rasterscan’ TV screens, the Vectrex uset vector technology (hence the name Vectrex). This technology was also used in arcade hall machines and produced a very sharp image. The Vectrex was introduced at a very bad moment (the USA video game crash in 1983) and production was discontinued in 1984. Only 28 games were released originally, but the system became so popular amongst collectors that up to now new 'homebrew' games are made.
