The story is pre-published in the weekly magazine Spirou from nr 196 to nr 240 and then continues in the youth album (last page see image 2). Due to the occupier's prohibition to publish the weekly, the story will not be fully pre-published. The first album version was released in 1943 before the weekly was restarted.

Jijé tekent zijn eerste biografie Don Bosco ('n Robbedoes) in de jaren '41 - '42.
Het verhaal wordt voorgepubliceerd in het weekblad Robbedoes van nr 196 tot nr 240 en loopt dan verder in het jeugdalbum (laatste pagina zie afbeelding 2).
Door het verbod van de bezetter om het weekblad uit te geven zal het verhaal niet volledig voorgepubliceerd worden. In 1943 verschijnt de eerste albumversie alvorens het weekblad terug opgestart is.
