Dear people,

From an inheritance I came into possession of many postcards, but (almost) all without stamps. Are there collectors for this kind of cards? The stamps were saved by mister and madam saved the cards and corresponded with people "all over the world". I'm working on my own postcards to import them, but 73 kilos (four moving boxes) is a lot to put in the catalog.

Well, of course it is a special legacy. First of all, I think it's a great addition to Catawiki if you take a photo of all the cards and enter them one by one. It must be a painstaking job, but that certainly has its charm, I think. It is very useful for collectors.

Question two is whether the cards individually will attract collectors. I really would not know. Each collector sets his own conditions for his collection. I myself only collect cards with a stamp, because that is how a card comes to life. Under certain conditions I also buy unpainted cards, if they are very old and / or special.

Other people only want unpainted cards, for equally valid reasons. Everyone's fun, right? I think it would be a very nice challenge to introduce that colossal collection to Catawiki. If necessary, it will take you a few years, I'm just saying something. Because you never know what it will bring you, besides just the pleasure of doing this hobby. Monk work is still useful and fun!

Greetings: Maarten van Dijken, Emmen.

It is indeed a painstaking job to enter your cards, but that is also very satisfying. I also have a lot of postcards myself and try to import my collection. Of all the places I have, there are still a lot of them not listed.

Since I also collect many other categories, I have to divide the attention and then put in a series of DVDs, then some postcards or CDs, cassette tapes. With plates it is even more work, because you cannot put them under the scanner (singles excepted) and therefore first photograph, then edit on the computer (cut to only the plate and then resize it for upload) and then place it in CataWiki. And then filling in data is also a lot of work, because with records you also have tracks that you have to fill in. But I like to do it.

When you enter your postcards, keep a few things in mind:

  1. Place a scan of the front and back
  2. Fill in as much information as possible. It may be that people also have the same card, but a slightly varying version. They can find out from this information.
  3. Themes in plural: Because several cards can have a certain theme, it is usual to fill in plural.
  4. Type slowly! There is a completion function in the fields and as you type, CataWiki makes suggestions for existing themes. If you do this quickly, it won't work.

And I also thought that blank (post) cards were the most wanted, but many collectors like to see that a card has been sent. He has traveled, as they say. It is also easier to derive a year from this. There will of course always be exceptions for very special blank cards.

I hope I have been able to give you an answer. I just can't help you with the printing technique. I'm not sure of that either.
