many singles do not have a date and based on the title of the song or even better the release number it is very easy to get all the information about the song on this site: http://www.discogs.com/search

The site also lists the year and release numbers of other countries in which a particular single was released.

I think a useful tool!

@ Klaas17, this site does indeed often provide additional information, but it is certainly not 100%.

But I suspect that a lot of collectors use this site to copy things etc and that is indeed often useful while adding.

But no more than that. I regularly encounter errors there. The problem is that many of those internet sources simply copy information from each other. Including errors.

The site also lists the year and release numbers of other countries in which a particular single was released

But only if participants have filled it in. So it works similar to Catawiki. Check out Rate Your Music's site for release numbers:

http://rateyourmusic.com/list_classifier/Discographies/

I use this regularly myself. and also the magazine Warm Sounds. This magazine contains release lists of singles and EPs from the 50s and 60s released in the Netherlands by record company.

Platenclub Utrecht has also released 2 volumes with data on singles released in the Netherlands. See http://pwedding.home.xs4all.nl/index.htm

Catawiki user Herman0501 is a member of that club.

Using other sites as a reference work to make a good and, above all, complete entry is certainly very useful. Indeed, you should not assume that those sites have the full truth in their hands and always rely mainly on your own copy.

Discogs is certainly a useful site and if you search for that term within the CataWiki forums you will find that many collectors also know and use this site.

However, what is objectionable is the use of the images from that site, because they are not always clear, incomplete or incorrect. Always start from your own copy and don't steal images from other sites.

As a music lover myself, I have also registered with the aforementioned sites, but that is mainly because you want to look up something that you will not find on your record.

I have also come across the difference between distribution code, release number and imprint on the record (also has a name, but can't think of it) on various sites. CataWiki also often has questions in its forums and fortunately more and more are being added to this.
