With the postcards you can now specify the type of printing technique used to print the card. For the beginner or a lay collector it is quite difficult what kind of print a card is.

In this case I try to at least give a start to an explanation. And I hope this will be supplemented or improved soon, because I don't understand much about it.

You can choose from:

Autochrome (Autotype with color lithograph) - No idea what that is

Autotype (Screen Print, Monochrome) - ????

Intaglio (Incl. Copperplate) - ????

Photo Card (Bromide, Brown) - Postcard with a black and white photo on it that has a brown or brownish color

Photo Card (Gloss Card) - Postcard with a black and white photo on it that gives a shine when placed in the light

Full Color Offset - The postcard today. A postcard with a photo on it and it is printed using the latest techniques

Color lithograph - A type of engraving and is also referred to by many as a drawing. This 'drawing' is then colored or printed with colors

Light Printing - ????

Litho - A kind of engraving and is also called a gray drawing by many

Multi-color light printing - ???

This is just a test with 3 extra fields at the request of the Association for Documentation Postcards, which also wants to work with the section. In addition to the printing technique field, there are also new fields for Number on card (many cards have a number, which is important) and Series. All three seem logical fields to me. I will receive a proposal for explanatory texts from the association as soon as possible.

Google is certainly a useful tool to find out what techniques exist. I actually wanted to address this topic, as I also see the forum as a sort of guide to how collectors should enter items. If they are entering a card and they come to the printing technique field, they still have to search.

If it is defined here, it is immediately clear. For example, many sections often contain information about the condition of an item. That is a nice guide for someone who wants to introduce something.

@Rene: Are you also going to add a field distributor / issuing point? At small places, photo cards were sold and issued by different individuals / companies under their names. These cards were then printed at a larger national publisher. Such as JosPé or Van Leer's Photo Printing Industry.
