Hello everyone,

I found this coin in my wallet.

So it is a yellow-colored 5 cent coin from 1999 from the Netherlands.

Is this coin known to anyone?

Is it a misprint or is it a forgery?

Greetings,

Reindoria

It reminds me of something that happened to me in my shop a decade ago. Two people came by with a silver penny. Also consulted coin traders did not easily have an answer. It was a mystery until I discovered the source. There was an electroplating company close to us. This one used nickels for testing. The bronze nickels were thrown into an electroplating bath and thus got a wafer-thin silver-colored layer. Because they hardly got any thicker and the drawing remained sharp, they seemed missteps…. (Or nickels made in the nickel that was used for quarters and dimes)

Euro coins are known to have been accidentally struck on the wrong face, so a 5 cent on a 10 or 20 cent piece face piece would theoretically be possible. Much more are deliberate forgeries of such a misfire with the aim of making money.

The point of reference is whether or not the coin reacts to a magnet. Could you try that?

Thanks for the responses so far!
