Since there will not be a layered theme structure in the short term and there is a desire to introduce more themes/motifs, we will adjust the working method slightly.
Themes/Motifs remain a closed list, so that the administrators can continue to control this.
Requests for expansion of Themes/Motifs can be submitted in this topic.
Under the conditions:
  • Proposal must include translations. The translations must also be unique in all languages.
  • It must be possible to link sufficient items to the new Theme/Motif.
  • Do not introduce overlapping concepts. So no Chemists next to Chemists, etc
  • No themes/motifs that are already mentioned in another field.

True az60, but I wanted to combine this message with the request for the themes Mustelids, Seals and Canids. But then I started to have doubts about this and wanted to find out more first.

I would also be very happy with mustelids and canids. Robben is basically identical to seals, which is already listed.

I thought that the seals, like the sea lions, fur seals, walruses and elephant seals, were classified as seals az60 ?. Or did I read that wrong again?

Helv ,
Can you add the themes Canines ( Fets already exist) and Skunks?.

And then also mustelids, in addition to bears , a very large group of ermines, weasels, polecats, badgers, otters and of course martens.

When describing the seal theme, I already suggested adding sea lions and walruses:
It makes sense to involve the other two families.
There was never any comment on that. Apparently everyone can agree with that. So that's just a matter of a different name. The seals, sea lions and walruses option seems too long to me. The official name will then become Pinnipeds (Pinnipedia). In NL, GB, FR, D:
Pinnipeds - Pinnipeds - Pinnipedes - Robben
(In German it is called Robben, in Dutch robben has a more limited meaning).

There were only a few stamps left under "Castles". Presumably there was a small technical problem during the merging. Has now been resolved.

az60 and Charles1971 I forwarded the remaining requests. Jummeke Thank you in advance for the translation provided.

Hunde already exists as a theme in German az60 , therefore Hundeartigen. Canids are not the same as dogs, as is known. The German Marder must be changed to Real Marder, see wiki a few posts above.

Skunks are a limited group. Not very many stamps were issued. Personally, I wouldn't be so quick to make it my own theme. But if there is a demand for it, then there is a demand for it. I would make it a little broader and place all species of the Mephittidae below. Then you get (NL - GB - Fr - D):
Skunks - Skunks - Mouffettes - Skunks or
Skunks - Skunks and Stink Badgers - Moufettes - Stinktiere.
The top one is the most used/official.

I think 'pinnipeds' is very strange.
When you think of fins, you think of fish.
Me right.
Don't think it will occur to many people to look for a sea lion among Pinnipeds.
Then it is even better to keep the long name for once.
Or look for something better...

Hunde is the correct name according to the German Wikipedia, but I do indeed see the problem you indicate. So I agree with your proposal. The same applies to the adjustment to Real Marder in the Martens theme.
buizer
I also agree with this. Seals and the rest are clearer. If it causes a problem in the layout of the themes, then that is a problem for the administrators.

True buizer . Another option for Dutch is marine predators. But this one doesn't make sense to me either. Seal is also not correct, but what is correct?

It should be a name that everyone can easily find. And a name that includes all animals of this group.

Just take a look on the internet.
Why do 'humans' use swimming fins?
Then the diver can move easily and faster.
Copied from the animals. Such as seals, sea lions, ...
They naturally have 'swimming fins'. As a movement/displacement function.
Maybe 'webbed creatures'? F = nageoires / palmes? English = Flukes? German = Flosse.
Flipper is also available in English and German, but that sounds too much like 'Flipper the fish'.
And don't shoot me, I'm just suggesting this.
Because I wonder if other than seals, sea lions, etc., other animals still use 'swimming fins'.
Ducks and other water birds e.g.
