Hello dear Fellow Dodo's

On Marktplaats I see quite a lot of sellers who offer Bootlegs, at sometimes high prices .. apparently there is a market for it, but I would not easily spend (much) money for "Amateurist" produced and released CDs.

I was wondering how you look at this.

Ojee personal vision (music?): of course it has a potential collector value (whatever form & gt; have, have), for some (fans / dealers),
however, there is often also a legal concept involved.
Illegal says it all. Possession, distribution and so on ... (from healer to ..)

And then the term bootleg & gt; it was made without rights, is there a copy of no longer available for sale (or never appeared) or a name used in a form on remixes ...

Alternative thinker & gt; if you know that you cannot park near a defective parking meter, and you do it anyway & gt; can result in a fine. (potential 1 person error)
Also, if I would refer someone to that 'place' (def.meter) I would be a trigger to ill. action, and then the first rule applies again (potentially 2 press error). (ie promoting ...)

Whether this helps? It is an individual decision / accountability (and its consequences?).
Anyway, I am not of the existing © organizations, and certainly not a legal expert.

Well actually very simple: you buy it or you trade it, or collect it. Everyone their own thing.
Exactly what a bootleg is is an explanation of how and for what you use and indicate the 'word'.
Since illegal actually already contains something 'wrong' (legal), one may wonder how someone will deal with it further.

Ehh best not baking bread ;-)

You have two different things: bootlegs and counterfeits. Both are illegal by the way. Counterfeits are exact replicas of existing records / CDs. Bootlegs usually never contain officially released study recordings, outtakes or live recordings.

Bootlegs can vary a lot in quality, but most of them are really not amateurishly produced. I myself have a fair amount of Beatles bootlegs and most of them are of decent quality. The Swingin 'Pig is a well-known bootleg label from Italy that delivered good quality, including the Ultra Rare Trax series. Yellow Dog, Purple Chick and Vigotone are also well known to Beatles fans. The publications are well cared for and obscure photos are often used. Some were so successful that the mainstream record companies decided to release those recordings themselves. Consider the BBC recordings of The Beatles.

Prices vary, but at record fairs you can still buy bootlegs for reasonable prices.

I once put some of the above labels on LD. Just look for The Swingin 'Pig, Vigotone, Yellow Dog or Purple Chick.

@ Leike-W

Hello, thank you for your comment.

Let me put it another way, I go to the concert of the band "Nightwish", bring a recorder and make recordings, which I afterwards put on a blank CDR and print 100 of them. then I will sell them on MP or a record fair and ask 50 euros for them.

You could, at least if you get that recorder into the room.

Regarding the release, there is probably no one to stop you and there will no doubt be fans who want a copy of it. I would disapprove if the band released live albums themselves on a regular basis. A true fan usually buys directly from the band after a concert for a reasonable price. I usually pay around 15 euros for a CD and then I get a signature from the artist. So win-win ...

Either way, it remains illegal. No duties are paid.

@FrenchS

Thank you for your response, the message above yours was purely hypothetical. I just wondered if people here would pay for a bootleg, because I see them more and more on (private) sales sites.

You're welcome. Bootlegs appeared in the early 70's and I can remember buying one every now and then ;-)

The first for me I thought was Dylan's Little White Wonder.
