I think we should make the EAN code mandatory. If there is no EAN code on old videotapes or laserdiscs, simply choose “None”.
In addition, the EAN is entered without spaces, unlike the help text. That makes finding it so easy. I would therefore also like to argue for adaptation of that sample text.

We'll talk about film carriers in this forum, so DVD , Blu-Ray, Laserdisc, videotapes and the like.
(Stamps and coins really don't have a EAN code)

I wouldn't be against making that field mandatory too. There are not that many mandatory fields yet. And EAN is for 99.9% a unique identifier of the item.
And indeed gladly to each other, yes.

but how long will we keep them: (coins stamps for the future)
My comment was about the fact that a EAN field must be present in all categories. are: a standard field just like title, country serial number ect
and not present just none.
And for my peers we will have to get a close look.

Done.
I think making it mandatory is a bit risky because not everyone understands what this field is and where it can be found.

Maybe you should just call it Barcode instead of EAN ?

That might be a good idea, yes.
I now realize that there is no barcode / EAN on Super 8 films etc. So it is not possible to make it mandatory anyway.

Can't we have “None” entered?

That could indeed be done. But then it should not happen too often that someone enters something without EAN .

Ok, so the barcode = EAN code…? : S
Obviously, let's see if I can add that from now on. Will be fun with everything that has already been entered WITHOUT EAN to add it. Strength administrators. ;)
